Met Dept. warns of heavy thundershowers

There is a likelihood of afternoon thundershowers over most parts of the island during the next few days, Department of Meteorology said today.

It asked people to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by lightning activity and localized strong winds during the thundershowers.

“Showers or thundershowers will occur over most provinces of the island after 2.00 p.m.

It said heavy rain exceeding 100 mm could be expected at some places in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Uva, Western, North-Central and North-Western Provinces.

DMC Deputy Director Pradeep Kodippili however told Daily Mirror that there had not been a considerable increase in the rains around reservoir catchment areas. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
