Mechanism to receive, resolve consumer complaints on petroleum issues

A A A

Government to establish an independent and transparent mechanism to receive and resolve petroleum related consumer complaints under the supervision of the Energy Ministry and Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL).

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation was responsible for all the activities concerning the petroleum industry since the beginning.

However, several parties are currently engaged in such activities. The PUCSL was appointed as the regulatory body for the petroleum industry. The role of the agency is limited to advising and assisting the Ministry on policies and regulations of the lubricant industry.

Under these circumstances, no practical mechanism has been established to protect the rights of petroleum consumers.

Accordingly, the PUCSL, Consumer Services Authority, Sri Lanka Customs, Sri Lanka Police, Sri Lanka Standards and other relevant government agencies will be involved in the implementation of the proposed methodology. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
