Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera is reported to have objected to a Cabinet memorandum by Home Affairs, Local Government and Provincial Councils Minister Vajira Abeywardane to grant permits for members of the currently defunct provincial councils to import vehicles valued at US$35,000 each sans duty.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet paper was deferred for later. (Kelum Bandara)

Just madness and nonsense. Give instead every voter a duty free vehicle as they are those who elect these bastards

Yes I agree why should import oversized vehicle by these so called MEMBERS. All the vehicle should be duty free on normal duty with limitation to cc capacity.

Next President MUST assure that there's NO provincial councils, ONLY 100 members of Parliament, 20 cabinet ministers, MP's will get ONLY a allowance with legitimate expenses reimbursed with a cap limit!!! No duty-free vehicle permits !!!

Duty free concession should be given only to those who contribute for GDP growth considerably..Others should not be given
