Laos national arrested with 2.6kg of methamphetamine

A Laos national was arrested with 2.623kgs of methamphetamine also known as Ice by the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) early this morning, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said.

He said this was the first time that a Laos national was arrested in Sri Lanka.

The consignment which has street value of Rs. 40 million had been hidden inside a false bottom of the suspect’s luggage.

The 25-year-old suspect was identified as Xaiyavong Thongphath who had arrived in the country from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, the spokesman said.

SP Gunasekera said the suspect would be produced in the Negombo Magistrate’s Court. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
