Jaffna Mayor tests positive for COVID-19

Mayor of Jaffna, Vishvalingam Maniwannan has tested positive for COVID-19 after he underwent a PCR test, health officials said.

The Mayor is presently receiving treatment at the Jaffna General Hospital.

A senior official of the Jaffna MOH office said the Mayor would have contracted the virus when he attended a wedding in the Nelliadi area recently.  

The official said steps were being taken to identify the individuals who had closely associated with the mayor in order to quarantine them. (Romesh Madusanka)
