India has agreed to donate it’s locally manufactured vaccines against the COVID-19 for Sri Lanka’s front line workers following discussions held between President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Daily Mirror learns.

The number of vaccines which will be donated by India is still unclear but a sufficient number of doses will arrive here to vaccinate some of the front line workers involved against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Director-general of Health Services, Dr. Asela Gunawardena told Daily Mirror that the necessary documents had been forwarded to the Attorney General’s Department to obtain the legal clearance while clearance was also awaited from the National Medicines Regulatory Authority.(JAMILA HUSAIN)
