Heavy rains exceeding 150 mm are expected in some areas of the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces today due to low-level atmospheric disturbances in the country's vicinity, the Meteorology Department said.

Therefore, cloudy skies will prevail over the southern half of the island.

Other parts of the country could expect heavy rainfall of more than 100mm, they said.

The department cautions the general public to take adequately precautions to safeguard themselves from  dangers caused by gusty winds and lightning during thundershowers. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
