Steps would be taken to amend the Consumer Protection Act to suit the new market changes in the world, Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardane said today.

Responding to a question raised by Government MP Mohamed Muzammil whether action would be taken to regulate online business, he said no legal provisions have been introduced with regard to E-commerce in Sri Lanka.

“The Consumer Protection Act enacted in 2003 has not been updated according to changing market situations. No laws have been introduced in Sri Lanka with regard to E-commerce. More changes need to be done to the Act. Steps are being taken to amend the Consumer Protection Act,” he said. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
