Chandragupta Thenuwara’s brother Indranatha today said his brother's decision to file a petition against former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s citizenship was indecent at this juncture and said he could have done it some years ago.

Indranatha Thenuwara was responding to Prof. Thenuwara and L.A.C. Uyangoda who filed the writ petition disputing the citizenship of Mr. Rajapaksa.

Speaking at a news conference, Mr. Thenuwara said breaking the leg of a rival candidate cannot be accepted and said what should have been done was to contest and win.

Mr. Thenuwara said his brother may have been used by some other party to do such a thing and added that it was a disgrace to his reputation.

He said the petition was filed based on facts revealed by veteran journalist Victor Ivan to a local newspaper.

we are not concerned whether you are a brother of Thenuwara or not.We are concerned as to whether he could contest as a SriLankan citizen of this country.

    Dayan Thursday, 03 October 2019 04:53 PM

No. Gota needs to get court clearance. If he can't get the clearance he is not fit to ask for our votes to be the president of the country.

    Ram Thursday, 03 October 2019 05:17 PM

Those who contest must come with clean hands and any citizen can question on that at any time

Unknown fellow. Not worth giving publicity

There is nothing indecent when it comes to law of the country. I am personally thankful to the 2 persons who took the citizenship issue to Courts. If it is a disgrace you can get US citizenship and flee the country for good

    NimalU Thursday, 03 October 2019 05:43 PM

Chandragupta Thwnuwara has done the right thing as a citizen of this country.

Lord Wolfstein Thursday, 03 October 2019 05:47 PM

To prevent a torturer, murderer and looter from becoming president of this country is honourable and any means can be used.

His brother must be stupid idiot if he let others use him.
