No Sri Lankan citizen will allow himself to be buried in another country, an SJB MP said yesterday.
SJB MP Mujibur Rahman told a press conference that one cannot agree with the idea of burying Muslims of this country who succumb to COVID- 19 in Maldives.
“I am a citizen of this country and I don’t want to be buried in another country,” Rahman said.
“As we understand it has been the Sri Lankan government which has requested the Maldivian government to allow Sri Lankan Muslims who succumb to COVID-19 to be buried in that country.the Maldivian Minister has tweeted that his country made the offer only after the Sri Lankan government made the request,” he said.
“The Sri Lankan government should allow the burial of those who succumb to COVID-19 just like the other 190 countries which are allowing burials,” he added.(Yohan Perera)
