A Cabinet Sub Committee comprising of Ministers Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Bandula Gunawardena and Ramesh Pathirana has been appointed to take action on the current power generation plans and to minimize possible lapses.

The Sub Committee was appointed at the request of Power Minister Dullas Alahapperuma.

The recommendations of the Sub Committee should be submitted to the Ministers within two weeks and its first committee meeting is scheduled to be held today (29) at 3.00 pm.

Focus will be made by the sub committee on the future of diesel and fuel power plants which are currently run by the public and private sectors, the Power Ministry said.

The Power Ministry's policy is to reduce the use of diesel and fuel to 5% by 2025 and to limit it to 1% by 2030. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
