Bodies unclaimed by families can be cremated: AG informs Health DG

Attorney General Dappula de Livera informed Director General of Health Services that bodies of COVID-19 victims, which are not claimed by families, can be cremated in terms of the Quarantine Regulations, AGs Coordinating Officer said.

The Government Information Department earlier said the cremation of the bodies of those who succumbed to COVID-19 infection without relatives and guardians would be done on the expense of the Government.

    Some form of closure for these men/women who passed away with virus is a good thing. May they rest in peace. What to do all the survivors wanted the Govt to bear the cost and was holding on. Even the relatives who had the money for cremation did want to get the Govt to do the needful. Precarious situation.
