Sri Lankan Air force (SLAF) deployed a Bell 412 Helicopter equipped with a Bambi bucket to douse the fire erupted at the Garbage dump in Kerawalapitiya.
SLAF spokesman, Group Capt. Dushantha Wijesinghe said the fire was reported to them at 5.00 pm by the Desaster Management Centre (DMC) requesting to provide a helicopter to assist dousing the fire.
The fire erupted at the Kerawalapitiya waste disposal site this evening, he said.
"Colombo Fire Brigade and the SLAF firefighting units arrived at the scene to control the fire," the Spokesman said.
The fire was spreading rapidly due to the dry weather and strong breeze, Group Capt. Wijesinghe added.
