Following the proposal submitted by the President in the capacity of the Minister of Defence, it was decided to amend the Firearm Ordinance, No.33 (Chapter 182) of 1916 amended by the Act, No.22 of 1996.

The Cabinet Ministers have decided to amend further the Firearm Ordinance on June 13, 2007.

However, the drafting of the Bill was delayed due to the amendments adduced to it intermittently.

The President advised the legal draftsman to draft the Bill by including all the relevant amendments appropriate to the present requirements. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
