The deterioration in the air quality experienced in Colombo had returned to normal by yesterday. However, it is expected to deteriorate again by next Wednesday (13).
This information was released by The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) Senior Scientist H.D Sarath Premasiri during an interview with the media.
He also elaborated that as per the US Air Quality Index (AQI), the unhealthy values of air quality had gone up to more than 150 but returned to the normal (level of 50 to 60).
We used to monitor the air quality in the Colombo regions atmosphere and other areas.
However, the geological conditions of the area and the wind speed impacts the AQI to a certain level," he said That Sri Lanka had also experienced a similar occurrence in November 2018.
Mr.Premasiri also mentioned that patients suffering from respiratory conditions such as asthma could be affected and advised them to be careful.
The Department of Meteorology has said there would be a possibility of an increase in wind power on Wednesday (13) and that would cause a possible deterioration in the air quality, (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
