16-year-old with NTJ links arrested

A 16-year-old suspect, Mohamed Naufar Abdullah, who had allegedly maintained links with the proscribed National Thawheed Jamaath (NTJ), was arrested in Ampara on a tip-off received by the State Intelligence Services (SIS), police said.

Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said the suspect had undergone weapon training in Nuwara Eliya.

SP Gunasekara said the suspect’s father Naufar Moulavi was also arrested by the TID in an earlier occasion and is in the TID custody now.
