A Covid-19 infected young woman who had been released after undergoing treatment at the Kahagolla treatment centre had relapsed and died within hours after admission to the Badulla General Hospital. The 21-year-old young woman was a garment factory worker from Rideemaliyedda area.
JMO Badulla General Hospital Dr. Ruchira Nadeera performed the postmortem examination and reported that she had died of severe pneumonia.
Her parents were allowed to see the body at the hospital mortuary subject to the health guidelines. The cremation took place at the Badulla public cemetery under the strict supervision of the JMO, the PHIs of the Badulla Municipal Council and the Police. Only her father’s brother was allowed to attend the cremation.
The Chief PHI of the Municipal Council said others in her family were placed under quarantine.
