Chairman of the Welikanda Pradeshiya Sabha P.G.Priyantha Kavindu Abesuriya was removed from office with immediate effect by North Central Province Governor Maheepala Herath. The Governor had issued the gazette extra ordinary in this regard on April 01.
The Governor had taken this step on the findings of the Committee of Inquiry headed by retired High Court Judge Saman Wicremarachchi, that investigated several allegations against the Chairman. Governor Maheepala Herath had removed the chairman from office in terms of powers vested in him.
