Two side-charges (claymores) weighing 15kgs each were found yesterday in a compound at Kondavil in Jaffna based on information provided by former LTTE cadre Joseph Peter Robinson who was arrested last Friday, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said.
The 36-year-old suspect residing in Kilinochchi was nabbed with a T-56 rifle on information received by an officer attached to the Serunuwara Army Camp near the Kiliweddi Bridge. He was later handed over to the Serunuwara Police.
During investigations, the police recovered a stock of weapons and explosives from his residence. The suspect’s wife and sister were taken into police custody.
The police recovered three SFG-87 and two Arges hand grenades, a small quantity of C4, 62 9-mm and nine 7-mm ammunition, one T-56 weapon, 154 T-56 live ammunition, one long range semi-automatic rifle, one magazine, two detonator cords, 62 different types of detonators, five MGM live ammunition, one knife, a GPS, a Sony camera, binoculars, a laptop, a dongle, an antenna, a mobile phone, four t-shirts with Prabhakaran’s picture and a black mask from the suspect’s house last Saturday.
The suspects were later handed over to the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID).
