Two patients infected with the UK strain of the COVID-19 had been reported from the Meerigama area on Monday, the Medical Office of Health said.
Area Public Health Inspector Nishantha Somaratne said the patients were identified after the PCR tests at the Wathupitiwala Base Hospital.
The two patients are from the Pasyala and Pallewela areas.
“It is not yet clear as to how they contracted the new strain of virus,” he said.
