The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) yesterday said the earth tremor which took place in the Southern seas off Sri Lanka was a harmless one.

DMC spokesman Pradeep Kodipili told Daily Mirror that the tremor with the magnitude of 4.0 occurred around 11.30 p.m. yesterday in the shallow seas.

“This kind of tremor is harmless as it has not taken place in the deep sea. There was no plate movement involved in this tremor so therefore a tsunami could be ruled out, “ he said.

This tremor took place just days after another tremor was reported from the Central Province.
