The Constitutional Council (CC) shortlisted the names of applicants to be appointed to the Office of Reparations, fulfilling another part of the transitional justice mechanism mentioned in the UNHRC resolution on Sri Lanka, it is learnt.
The Office of Missing Persons, the Office of Reparation, the Truth and Reconciliation Mechanism and a Judicial Mechanism to hear issues of rights violations are included in the UNHRC resolution 30/1 to be fulfilled by the Sri Lankan government. The CC which met on Tuesday evening selected three names to be sent to President Maithripala Sirisena for appointment to the Office of Reparation established under a parliamentary Act introduced last year. The Office, once constituted, will work on reparations to the war affected people. According to sources close to the CC, there were five applicants and three of them were selected to be referred to the President.
