Shani Abeysekera Case SI remanded on charges of falsifying evidence

An Embilipitiya Police sub-Inspector arrested by the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) on charges of fabricating evidence in a firearms case, was yesterday remanded till August 7 by the Gampaha Magistrate’s Court.  

Police Spokesman Jaliya Senaratna said he was arrested in connection with the case involving  former CID Director Shani Abeysekera,   

Earlier, the CCD arrested Mr. Abeysekera on charges of fabricating evidence in a 2013 murder investigation involving former police officer Vaas Gunawardena and remanded till August 7.  
SSP Senaratna said the SI functioned as a CID Sergeant during the time Mr. Abeysekera was the CID director.
