Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga has informed the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara to cancel the SLFP All Island Working Committee meeting scheduled for April 5 claiming it was against the party constitution.
In a letter addressed to the General Secretary, Mrs. Kumaratunge said, she as the patron of the party, had not been invited to the meeting scheduled for 2p.m. on April 5.
She also said the majority who were eligible for membership of the working committee according to clause nine of the party constitution, have also not been invited to the scheduled meeting.
She pointed out that electoral organisations in most of the electorates have not been established as yet and added that she had received information that Mr. Jayasekara was conspiring to allow groups loyal to him to attend the meeting fraudulently as secretaries of the electoral organisations.
Mrs. Kumaratunge also said steps should be taken to convene an All Island Working Committee meeting after forming electoral organisations as per the party constitution.
She said she was a member of the Party’s Executive Committee adding that she should be invited to all the important meetings of the party such as the Central Committee meeting, Executive Committee meeting and All Island Working Committee meeting.
