Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) is willing to play a role in the government through parliamentary committees, its leader and Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa said during the weekend.   

“ We are prepared to play a role in the government through committees but does not intend to accept ministerial port folios. The correct way to play a role in the government is to participate in parliamentary committees and not accepting ministerial portfolios and enjoy perks that come with them,” Premadasa told some trade union leaders whom he met during the weekend.   

“Civil organizations trade unions and other organizations should come to an understanding on a common programme  to build the nation.,” the Leader of Opposition said.  Premadasa said he will set up a national council bringing trade unions and other civil organizations together next Tuesday. He said the council will function from the Opposition Leaders office.
