Public requested to provide personal details to authorities during festive season

Health authorities, police and armed forces personnel will conduct various anti-Covid-19 operations during the festive season in order to prevent a mass scale spread of the spread of Covid-19 Police Spokesman Ajith Rohana said.

DIG Rohana requested the public to provide the authorities or security officers with their details including names, addresses and NIC numbers.


He also urged the people to write down such details on a piece of paper and keep it with them.


“Whenever the health authorities, security forces or police request for your details, you could submit the details written by you, instead of filling up forms or creating any document,” the police spokesman said.
He said only a few people carry business cards and that it is also sufficient for the purpose.


Meanwhile, DIG Rohana said that it was observed that those who have been instructed to give samples for PCR tests had been providing false information to health authorities.


He warned any person who provides such false information could face legal action and if convicted may face up to five years rigorous imprisonment.


The Spokesman said that 32 persons were arrested on Wednesday for violating quarantine regulations by failing to wear masks or maintain social distancing in public.


He said 1,525 suspects have so far been arrested in this regard since October 30.
