A permanent solution would be given for the schedule daily power cuts by April 10, Power and Energy Minister Ravi Karunanayake said yesterday.
He was addressing an event of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held at the Galadari Hotel and said no electricity generation procedure had occurred since 2014 in the country. The demand for electricity had increased by 7 to 8 percent but no sufficient supply, he said.
“No need to blame the past. We are experiencing repercussion for not taking preliminary actions to address the power demanding issue. We need to find a viable solution so that this kind of crisis would not emerge in future,” Minister said. However, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) had recently issued daily power cuts routine and I would make a clear statement on Friday (29) in Parliament what had caused the power cuts, Minister Karunanayake said. We would have to give a definite solution to this issue and the inconvenience caused to the public, Minister added.
