A mason who was riding on a motorcycle was arrested by officers of the Organised Crime Division with 3.2kg of heroin during a special raid in Piliyandala on Tuesday night.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the suspect was produced before the Kesbewa Magistrate seeking a 7-day detection order in terms of the provisions of the dangerous drugs ordinance, to conduct further investigations.

The suspect was identified as a 47-year-old resident of Piliyandala.

It was revealed that this drug trafficking has been manipulated by a prominent drug trafficker ‘Badowita Asanka’ who is in remand custody.

“We are conducting anti-narcotics operations quite relentlessly to apprehend the drug traffickers and peddlers. Public can also alert the police through 118, 119 and 1997,” DIG Rohana said.
