At least 3,000 people in 16 districts had been sent to serve quarantine process as a result of the Kandakadu cluster, Public Health Inspectors’ Union, President Upul Rohana said yesterday.

He said the cases relating to Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre had been reported from Colombo Gampaha, Puttalam, Kalutara, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Ratnapura, Kandy, Matale, Kagalle, Jaffna, Kurunegala and Monaragala.

“Those who were asked to serve self-quarantine and sent to quarantine centres are among the 3000,” he said.

“These people have maintained links with 534 people, who had been detected from the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre, out of which 25 cases were reported from the society,” he added.

Moreover, he said Sri Lanka was not out of the woods as yet in terms of Covid-19 situation and therefore it is vital to strictly adhere to health guidelines.
He also called for the guidelines relating to election be published via gazette immediately, adding if the situation continued, PHIs would have to withdraw from their duties considering their own safety and force the Health Ministry to shoulder the sole responsibility.
