Presidential candidate of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Gotabaya Rajapaksa requested the Muslims minority to be party to his victory which, he said, is certain according to every survey done in the country.
Addressing a group of Muslims at a mosque in Chilaw, he said the government had failed in ensuring security for people in the country. He said security is a pre-requisite for all communities.
He said, “My fervent hope is to build a safe country for all communities to live in. Everybody should be able to live without fear. There has to be one common law for all the people. Then only, people can carry out their daily businesses and follow their respective religions,”
He requested the Muslims not to get carried away by false propaganda. He said there was a misconception about him among the Muslims, and it would have been the reason for Muslims voting against Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa at the last elections.
