 Chaminda Sandamal Edirisooriya alias ‘Chamiya’, an accomplice of underworld figure ‘Angoda Lokka’ was killed during a scuffle with the police at Oruthota in Gampaha on Saturday night. 

Police said, initially the Western Province (North) Division crimes officers arrested the 41-year-old gangster at Peliyagoda.   They said the suspect was escorted to Gampaha area to recover a weapon hidden by him.   
Police said the suspect had tried to grab a firearm of a police officer at Oruthota area and that the police opened fire at the suspect in retaliation.  He was injured in the shooting and has died after being admitted to the Gampaha Hospital.   


The suspect was identified as a resident of Hiripitiya.   It was reported that the deceased was a gunman of the team operated by the underworld figure ‘Angoda Lokka’.
