Former sports presenter and commentator Brian Thomas who was arrested over an alleged Rs. 143 million financial fraud was yesterday ordered to be released on bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
When the case was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddika Sri Ragala, the Magistrate ordered to release the suspect on a cash bail of Rs. 25,000 and two sureties of Rs. 500,000.
Earlier, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed Court that the investigation was initiated on a complaint lodged with the CID on March 20, 2019 by a businessman named Dinesh Saftari.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff was defrauded of Rs. 143 million by acting as an intermediary to invest in a well-known clothing company. Accordingly, Attorney-at-Law Asoka Weerasoriya who appeared for the plaintiff informed the Court the suspect had defrauded over Rs. 100 million.
