A large number of Sri Lankans living in European countries yesterday staged a protest outside the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) against the foreign intervention into Sri Lanka’s domestic affairs.
Addressing the gathering, Rajarata University’s Prof. Channa Jayasumana said the then Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera committed the greatest betrayal of the country’s armed forces by co-sponsoring a resolution in October 2015.
“President Maithripala Sirisena will not be able to undo it merely by sending three of his representatives this time. Sri Lankans living in Europe braved the chilly weather and converged to protest against the purported moves to persecute the armed forces that resuscitated the country from terrorism. There is a major witch-hunt against war heroes,” he said.
