The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) said yesterday it would move court against any effort by the government to postpone elections to the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) in the
Galle District.
Addressing the weekly press conference, its Chairman Prof. G.L. Peiris said the Supreme Court (SC) ordered to conduct elections forthwith and that it was karmic retribution at work for the government that tried every possible avenue to postpone elections. “There are plans by the government to delay this election until the presidential poll. My party will initiate court proceedings against the government for contempt of court if such an attempt was made. This election will afford political parties the opportunity to assess their electoral strength ahead of the presidential election,” he said.
