Elaborate arrangements have been made to pay tribute to fallen war heroes of the army, navy, air force, police and Civil Security Department (CSD) on the 11th National War Heroes’ Day that falls today.
A dignified ceremony is to be held this noon at the National War Heroes’ Memorial or ‘Ranaviru Smarakaya’ under the aegis of the President, Prime Minister, Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces, Western Province Governor, Admiral of the Fleet, President’s Secretary, Defence Secretary, Chief of Defence Staff, Army Commander, Navy and Air Force Commanders, Inspector General of Police, Chairman of Ranaviru Seva Authority and a host of close relatives of fallen war heroes.
This year’s ceremony, organised by the Ranaviru Seva Authority (RVSA), will commence at 04:00 pm. A total of 28,619 brave officers – 23,962 from the army, 1,160 from the navy, 443 from the air force, 2,598 from the police and 456 from the CSD – who made the supreme sacrifice in the fight against LTTE terrorism before May 2009, will be respectfully remembered for their gallantry and selfless dedication.
