Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara, who was serving as the Health Ministry Spokesman has stepped down from the post, following a request made by Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Dr. Bandara said that he was informed of this decision by the Minister over the phone on Friday.
“I accepted the request and decided to step down”, he said. “Minister Wanniarachchi telephoned me and said that since the information pertaining to the COVID-19 situation is communicated by the Director-General of Health Services, there is no necessity for me to continue as the Health Ministry Spokesman,” he said.
Dr. Bandara added that he was not informed in writing when he was asked to take on the responsibility to serve as Health Ministry Spokesman and neither was he informed in writing when he was asked to step down.
