A 29-year-old COVID-19 infected mother from Colombo has given birth to quintuplets at the De Soysa Hospital for Women (Teaching), the hospital administration said yesterday.

They said the mother gave birth to two girls and two boys.

One of the infants was being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) while the rest are said to be in good health. The four infants weighed 1.6 ksg, 1.3 kgs, 1.2 kgs and 1.1 kgs.

No tests were conducted on the infants for COVID-19, however, the infants are isolated.

There were several childbirths by COVID-19 infected mothers at the hospital, but the infants were not infected with the virus at birth, an official said.
