  • Steady increase in number of patients in Colombo suburbs

By Chaturanga Samarawickrama

The COVID-19 risk in the Western Province (WP) has increased to 60% again with the advent of the new COVID strain from the country, the Government Medical Officer's Association (GMOA) said.

GMOA Editor Dr. Haritha Aluthge said a considerable number of patients with the new COVID-19 strain were found in the Colombo Municipality area.

However, two to three weeks ago, the risk in the WP was on a downward trend at 40%.   "There is a steady increase in the number of COVID-19 patients from the Colombo suburbs," he said. Therefore, more focus should be made on the WP and on the increasing number of patients, Dr. Aluthge said.
