A navy officer who contracted COVID-19 was discharged from IDH Hospital last Sunday thereby recording the first recovery among navy personnel who tested positive for coronavirus.
The navy said the officer on leave tested positive for coronavirus on April 25 at the Ratnapura Hospital and was directed to IDH on the same day. He had been discharged after three PCR tests resulted negative.
“The officer will be kept under quarantine for another 14 days following healthcare instructions. His family members are also undergoing quarantine at the Navy camp in Boossa,” the navy said.
According to the Health Ministry, 324 navy personnel and their close contacts have contracted coronavirus as at last morning. Among these officers, 134 are undergoing treatment at the Welisara Navy Hospital.
