Petitions filed by fmr. CID Director and fmr CID Sub Inspector
By Yoshitha Perera
The Court of Appeal (CA) has yesterday decided that it will consider the petitions filed by former Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director Shani Abeysekera and former CID Sub Inspector (SI) Sugath Mendis on February 23.
The two suspects are currently remanded by Gampaha Magistrate’s Court for allegedly fabricating evidence in a case against former DIG Vaas Gunawardena and a group of other suspects.
The Gampaha High Court, which heard the petition, has rejected the request of Shani Abeysekera and other suspect to be released on bail.
Accordingly, both suspects have filed a petition in the Court of Appeal seeking reversal of the Gampaha High Court decision and their release on bail.
