16 cops at Vavuniya Police Division test COVID-19 positive

Sixteen police officers attached to the Vavuniya Police Division have been infected with COVID-19, the Regional Medical Officer of Health (MOH) said.

 They are attached to the Vavuniya Terrorism Investigation Unit, the Police Special Bureau and officers who were deployed at the Vavuniya HQI’s COVID-19 prevention operations.


 They have been identified as infected with the virus after  PCR tests following  the discovery of  17 infected  suspects at  at the Vavuniya Terrorism Investigations Unit and four policemen.


 Altogether, 35 officers who are the first contacts of the infected were sent to the Omanthai Quarantine Centre.
