Sri Lanka bowling coach David Saker has abandoned the national team, halfway through his contract. The board said the Australian has tendered his resignation with immediate effect.

English county Warwickshire has been in talks with Saker to appoint him as head coach after Jim Troughton was sacked as head coach following a review into their disappointing season.

Saker has worked as bowling coach for both England and Australia over the last ten years before he took up the role with USA earlier last year prior to his role with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). Saker is among several others who were hired by SLC as part of a major overhaul of the coaching structure last year after terminating the services of head coach Chandika Hathurusingha.
