Dinesh Chandimal has been ruled out of the five match ODI series against India after suffering a hairline fracture on his right thumb.

Chandimal was hit on the right thumb by a Hardik Pandya delivery when he was on 14 and needed medical attention.

"SLC confirms that Test captain Dinesh Chandimal will be out of action for the rest of the series after sustaining a hairline fracture to his right thumb. We will have a better idea of timeline of his recovery after consulting a specialist in Colombo tomorrow," a media release from SLC said.

Chandimal wasn't part of the original ODI squad but was rushed to Kandy along with Lahiru Thirimanne after Upul Tharanga and Danushka Gunathilaka were ruled out with a ban and an injury.
