So is the van. Please check the pics again. What is important is what happened at the time of the accident. I am more than convinced that the Bus was at fault because by nature these guys are reckless. They think they have the claws and the muscle to out run and over take any vehicle without following road discipline. Unfortunately, I agree less with the comment that the van drivers are less disciplined. Please check who was been transported and no parent will take a chance with a driver who is reckless on the road.

    Alex Wednesday, 18 January 2012 08:36 AM

poor kids, finally the parents has to suffer. nothing else will happen in our wonderful country

Lanke Banda Wednesday, 18 January 2012 09:05 AM

    02 Sparrows don't make a summer.

This is not the correct remedy in my opinion. Errant Drivers must be subjected to more Strignent Penalties starting with Minimum Rs,10,000 & Cancelations of the Licences.

Buses can not pick up school goers at their homes but Vans can.

    Darren Wednesday, 18 January 2012 09:15 AM

Look carefully It's the van driver who had come on the opposite lane.

    prem Wednesday, 18 January 2012 09:29 AM

wHO EVER IT IS ,THE CULPRITS SHOULD BE PUNISHED.

jayantha ranasinhe Wednesday, 18 January 2012 10:08 AM

..Normally MT-Lavinya/dehiwala police officers on the Galle road request drivers to drive on third track (Peak direction) without informing the opposite vehicles……this is serious problem

    Thomas Wednesday, 18 January 2012 10:31 AM

Some of the commentators blame the Bus Driver, but REALLY THE VAN DRIVER IS AT FAULT, driving on the wrong side

    Person Wednesday, 18 January 2012 11:26 AM

Every one,Please pray foe this innocent children

    Mahisha Wednesday, 18 January 2012 11:38 AM

I find that the traffic police actually do a good job in directing traffic - sadly, no one appreciates it. If you really want to see the chaos we the driving public would be in (if they are not around, during rush hour), you would have to compare it with a day that the police force is not in town. Just look around you when you drive.

    Jack Wednesday, 18 January 2012 11:31 AM

Governmemnt introduced a law to put owners phone number of back window of all school vans. But I cant see in this van. Laws and legis are just gimmics in SL...

buffaloa citizen Wednesday, 18 January 2012 11:42 AM

You are absolutely right. Sometimes they are late in the morning arriving only around 6.50am. Most of them do not know how to control traffic leave alone sat inside a driving seat.

Ajantha Dissanayake Wednesday, 18 January 2012 08:29 AM

Very correct. Most traffic police in Colombo make matters worse, especially at round abouts and color lights. Just see the Gall Face rounder about in the morning

    RAJ Wednesday, 18 January 2012 12:19 PM

PARENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SENDING CHILDREN IN VANS WITH UNTESTED DRIVERS. AGAIN THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SENDING VERY YOUNG CHILDREN TO FAR AWAY SCHOOLS. GOVT. IS RESPONSIBLE FOR NOT MAKING AVAILABLE SUFFICIENT SCHOOL BUSES,AND QUALITY SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT THE ISLAND. HOWT IS THE ROLE OF RMV?

Namaska Senanayake Wednesday, 18 January 2012 12:50 PM

We Sri lankans are excellent at holding post-mortems.
What have we contributed individually to get rid of the killer maniac drivers on our roads? Absolutely nothing.
Let us all wake-up before it is too late.

Namaska Senanayake Wednesday, 18 January 2012 01:05 PM

In my opinion the Roman Dutch Law has become obsolete and outdated.
Why not we look at the German Legal System. The Chinese have adopted it very successfully.

    sid Wednesday, 18 January 2012 01:06 PM

If the bus driver is guilty the law should frame man slaughter charges on the driver and he should be sent to 5 yrs r.i

    Farzan Wednesday, 18 January 2012 01:04 PM

Wearing seat belt is fine but with observing the damages, If students are with seat belts, there would be very high casualties.

    Channa Wednesday, 18 January 2012 01:27 PM

Totally agree. Less risk. Less traffic. Less cost.

    Giniwelle Wednesday, 18 January 2012 01:40 PM

Why not get Police to check more on Buses and School vans, samevway as they checked the vegetable transporters.
Surely the lives of kids are worth more than vegetable.

Ameen Bhaila Wednesday, 18 January 2012 03:06 PM

School van drivers have to be fined heavily for reckless and negligent driving.

    ak Friday, 20 January 2012 09:15 AM

the buss driver is on his side may be the van driver was in a harri to tke da children to school.. may be he might have waken up late in da mring

    Jack Wednesday, 18 January 2012 06:33 AM

Traffic police should concentrate on reducing the accidents on our roads rather than waiting on the 'lonely' roads to fill--up their wallets, which is a regular occurrence these days.

    Dinesh Wednesday, 18 January 2012 05:57 AM

no action...since nobody died......I hate these bus drivers...

    gdj100 Wednesday, 18 January 2012 06:00 AM

This is ridiculous! These bus drivers should be stripped off the licenses....just imagine the damage caused! I'm glad and surprised to hear that no one has suffered major injuries.

Safety First Wednesday, 18 January 2012 06:11 AM

The government should bring is more stringent controls on the school vans also and should award them fitness certificates to ensure the vehicle is road worthy and safe to carry school children.

    Ali Wednesday, 18 January 2012 06:06 AM

It is the fault of the Van driver to come on the wrong side. These are all due to the confusion made by the Traffic Police, they confuse the drivers by extending the track towards Fort and reducing the track to singe line towards Panadura.

    kan Wednesday, 18 January 2012 06:23 AM

non-sense drivers on the rise, traffic police is one of the useless in Colombo creating more and more traffic chaos at traffic lights and roundabouts.

Coconut Donkey Wednesday, 18 January 2012 06:26 AM

It was actually completely the fault of the Van driver, try and avoid rushing to conclusions without knowing the facts

    mahesh Wednesday, 18 January 2012 06:27 AM

Bring back the old school bus system and stop this madness of using vans for transportation of school children which is unsafe and causing heavy traffic jams on the roads.

    Chat Wednesday, 18 January 2012 06:20 AM

How do you know the bus driver cause the accident ? I have seen the van drivers too drive fast and reckless.

    Chat Wednesday, 18 January 2012 06:21 AM

The bus is on the correct side of the road. Check the Daily Mirror photographs.

    citizen1 Wednesday, 18 January 2012 05:52 AM

Only a slight dent on the bus, whereas serius injuries for the kids. When will this stop being the norm?

    Kim Wednesday, 18 January 2012 06:27 AM

Time for Seat Belts in School Van's....

    Rosh Wednesday, 18 January 2012 06:28 AM

Technically, I do agree with you mate, But in this case, I think the van driver is the culprit

    manike Wednesday, 18 January 2012 06:43 AM

Traffic police should check the speed limits early in the morning also. Bloemendhal Road is partially repaired and school vans just fly.

    joker Wednesday, 18 January 2012 07:53 AM

This is what happens when RMV takes bribes and issues drivers licence to "harak"

    kolla Wednesday, 18 January 2012 08:05 AM

Please god save innocent children !!

    pasha Wednesday, 18 January 2012 08:22 AM

school van driver is the culprit he must have late and tried to go fast to reach school

    Prof.Henricks Wednesday, 18 January 2012 08:34 AM

The private bus service needs a complete overhaul. It is managed, operated and owned by a few uneducated people who are not interested in delivering a service but earning money.

    desilva Wednesday, 18 January 2012 08:37 AM

WHY CANT THE CTB INTRODUCE SCHOOL BUSES THE IT WAS IN THE OLDEN DAYS. EACH SCHOOL WILL HV THEIR OWN SCHOOL BUS FROM PANADURA TO THE SCHOOL.
AND WHEVER THE CHILDREN TRAVEL FM.
THAT WAY WE WILL EASE THE TRAFFIC AND VANS SPEEDING FROM ONE END TO THE OTHER TRYING TO GET TO MANY SCHOOLS BEFORE THEY BEGIN.

    THIS MUST B REGULATED

    Prof.Henricks Wednesday, 18 January 2012 08:37 AM

Absolutely! These small vans is a disgrace, packed like salmon, they make kids tired even before they goto school.
