Kelani Cables PLC was recognized for its exceptional contribution towards sustainable development with the National Green Award. 

Kelani Cables clinched the Silver award in the private entrepreneur category at the National Green Awards ceremony held at the BMICH recently. 

The awards ceremony organized by the Mahaweli Development and Environment Ministry in association with the Central Environmental Authority was graced by the President Maithripala Sirisena as the chief guest. 

Government, private entities and schools dedicated to safeguard the environment were recognized at the event. Kelani Cables was the sole organization in the electrical and communication cable manufacturing sphere recognized at the National Green Awards 2015.

Mahinda Saranapala, CEO, Kelani Cables PLC said the Green Award has yet again endorsed the dedicated service of Kelani Cables towards enriching the country and its people. 

“Kelani Cables was revamped in 2010 to fast track its endeavour to contribute towards sustainable development of the company. Within a very short span the company was able to bag a host of local and international awards. As a company we are dedicated to safeguard the environment. Wastage of resources and raw-material is kept at a minimal level within the parameters of the company. Kelani Cables as a socially responsible entity under its CSR initiative has gone to the extent of educating University and school children of the importance of safeguarding the environment”, said the CEO.  

Kelani Cables is geared with the ISO 14001:2004 certification for better environment management. The company has also won merit award at ‘National Cleaner Production Awards’ 2012 & 2013. Kelani cables also won merit award for environmental management system compliance at ‘Geo Responsibility Award’ 2014, prior to becoming the silver award winner at the National Green Awards 2015.

Kelani Cables PLC is one of the foremost companies in Sri Lanka that committed to be associated with ‘National Green Reporting System’ of Sri Lanka initiated by Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment. Further Kelani Cables has been certified to carry the ‘Responsible Care’ logo for their commitment in enhancing health and safety in the company premises. 

Shyama Perera, Technical Services Manager of Kelani Cables PLC speaking of the company’s sustainable development initiatives said the company adheres to 3R (Reduce-Reuse-Recycle) concept. She said that the company’s processes are aligned in such a way that maximum utilization of raw materials, energy and water is achieved.

The company achieved “Super Brands” status in the electrical and telecommunication sector in 2008 for professional supremacy it demonstrated in the electrical and communication cables sphere. Kelani Cables PLC won ‘CNCI Industrial Excellence crystal Award in 2008.
 
In 2012, Kelani Cables PLC clinched the bronze award for the excellent business brand category at the SLIM Brand Excellence. They clinched gold at the SLIM Brand Excellence once again in 2013 for the same category.

The company secured gold at the SLITAD People Development – 2013 award ceremony for the contribution it has made towards training and development of the work-force plus up keeping their welfare.

Kelani Cables PLC is the proud recipient of ISO 9001:2008 certification for quality management, ISO 14001:2004 for better environment management, National Quality Award in 2006 and the gold winner of Taiki Akimoto 5S award in 2007. 

In 2015 Kelani Cables PLC was conferred with the Asia’s Best Employer Brand award.
