Two BOC Non-Executive Directors resign

The two Non-Executive Directors, Lalith Withana and Hasitha Premaratne, have resigned from the director board of Bank of Ceylon (BOC), with effect from December 8, 2020.


Both Withana and Premaratne were appointed to the BOC board on January 14, 2020.


Withana, who has held management positions in the corporate sector for over 25 years, is currently Chief Executive Officer of SriLankan 


Catering Ltd. Premaratne is Group Finance Director of the Brandix group. He is also Managing Director of Brandix India Apparel City and overlooks all joint ventures and investments of the Brandix group. He is a Director of many subsidiaries of the Brandix group, including the listed company Teejay Lanka PLC.


The remaining BOC board members are: Kanchana Ratwatte (Chariman), R.M.P. Rathnayake (Ex-Officio Director) and two Non-Executive Directors Harsha Wijayawardhana and Anura Manilka Fernando.

    On top of resignation of two nonexecurive directors from the board , downgading the rating of BOC by Fitch will definitely." add fuel to fire" and may have a damaging effects on the bank as well as the country when it comes to interbank borrowings, confirming letters of credit issue of guarantees .
