The PIM Alumni, the professionals’ association of the prestigious Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM), affiliated to the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, recently concluded the official installation of its PIMA Association (PIMA) Chairman and Board of Directors for the year 2017/18, at Grand Oriental Hotel ceremoniously.
The chief guest at this exclusive event was PIM Director Professor Ajantha S. Dharmasiri, who is also the Patron of PIMA. This ceremony was graced by past presidents and several senior PIMA members who were there to wish the new chairman and the board a year full of success.
The members of PIMA are professionals who have completed their master’s and doctoral studies at the PIM. PIMA claims of having the largest number of professionals in the country, with over 2000 active members who hold MBA, MPA and PhD from the institute with many members holding senior managerial positions both in the private and public sector organisations.
At this event, Prof. Dharmasiri gave his blessings as the Patron of the association to the chairman and his board of directors and stated that he has every confidence that the chairman would lead the way for a higher standard for PIMA.
Immediate Past Chairman Chamila Bandara said, “He has no doubt that the new board would do their utmost to keep the PIM flag flying high.”
During the span of two decades, PIMA has become a formidable force changing the way businesses are seen and operated in the most professional and ethical way possible in keeping to the vision of PIM. The main objective of PIMA is to represent the values and ethics of the institute and to see that these are maintained and reinforced by the members through continuous support to develop and foster their management skills over the years to come.
PIMA has played a pivotal role in organising public forums for discussing various timely topics related to management, education, industry, finance, economics and social development for the benefit of their members and the public.
Chairman 2017/18 Nishantha Gunasekara assured, “With the great team appointed to the board this year, I have no doubt that we can take PIMA to the next level. We will develop a strategic plan for the next three years for the benefit of the alumni and the future leaders of PIMA.
The programmes and activities this year are conceptualized under a three cluster model namely communicate, perform and govern. This will be our blue print for this year, especially with the ‘perform cluster’ covering the elements: learn, explore, play, share and reward.”
PIMA continues in conducting Continuous Development Programmes (CPD) with a speaker panel consisting of prominent and renowned senior alumni who are respected in the private and public sector organisations.  The PIMA Dinner Dance and PIMA Cricket Fiesta are some of the entertaining annual events conducted by PIMA to encourage fellowship and social networking for the alumni on an annual basis. This year, PIMA hopes to launch the Corporate Leadership Discussion Forum, which will attract the senior and elite group of the business fraternity of the country to build awareness of concerning areas of business and to provide a forum to discuss and resolve issues that the fraternity as a whole experience.
The flagship event of PIMA is the PIMA National Management Awards, the annual event which emerged from the popular PIMA Platinum Honours. PIMA National Management Awards recognizes the significant and outstanding contributions done by the PIMA and non-alumni members for the management of organisations and also for the socio-economic development of the country.
