Meanwhile, the commercial capital Colombo has emerged as the most searched city for rent in 2020, indicating high interest among locals despite strict restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although Colombo continues to have the highest number of COVID-19 infected patients since the outbreak in Sri Lanka, a study on search trends by LankaPropertyWeb revealed that people preferred residing in the financial centre.

Following Colombo closely were Kandy and Dehiwala.Similarly, for property purchases too Colombo topped the list as the most preferred city, maintaining its 2019 position. Ranking second was Kandy, followed by Negombo.
For land search, Kandy, Kurunegala, and Nuwara Eliya were the most sought.

LankaPropertyWeb said that since January 2021, the positive sentiment towards real estate has been rising consistently among sellers and buyers.
