Walallawita PS chairman released on bail

The Chairman of the Walallawita Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) who was arrested on charges of bribery, has been released on bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya today.

He was granted a Rs 50000 cash bail with two sureties for Rs 2.5 million each by the court.

The Walallawita Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman was arrested on charges of soliciting a bribe of Rs. 1.5 million from the chairman of the Bentara Pradeshiya Sabha in exchange for issuing a permit to transport sand. He has been remanded until August 7. (TFT)
