yes! you are absolutly correct! I`m stupid. how did you get to know that? I`m sure you also know that there are about 60% more stupids in SL , who vote for MR, hahahaaa! lol!

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:27 AM

He has all the right to be there and observe eletion violations
to prevent this only police has taken him to custody .

    Is this democrazy?

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:26 AM

This is a free country and we believe SF military leadership liberated the north from the LTTE. So why do anyone need a reason to go anywhere in Sri Lanka. That is the freedom that the Sri Lankan security forces with SF leadership and the leaders of SLAF and SL Navy have earned for all Sri Lankans.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:25 AM

Vijitha Herath claimed that he and his companions were not arrested, but were detained which delayed their journey. They were travelling to the North to monitor the election proceedings on behalf of the SF camp. There were no army deserters or rioters in the bus that they travelled.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:23 AM

we know how vijitha act in 1989, killed lots of innocen people,
    now they talking democrocy nonsen,

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:20 AM

Why can’t they travel anywhere they want to? If there are other reasons for their arrest, people need to know about it. The above comments like “What was he doing there” are extremely juvenile and unrefined…

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:14 AM

Everyone should remember the it doesnt matter for what reason he was travelling to Vavuniya. its all about democracy and freedom of movement.
This is the kind of government we want for the next 8 years?

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:13 AM

I think he has gone Vavuniya to vote, with his crew, or to support his ever loving Sampandhan Anna.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:12 AM

So you prefer election violations using army deserters, is this the borrowed 'change' copied from Obama ? Arent you people have any shame. Gon voters will get carried away with this fake messaih, a budding dictaotr with one moticve revenge. Suba anagathayak weva, sathakima obalata !

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:28 AM

Only few hours..all this action will be stooped within 24 hours

    A9 open no...

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:05 AM

I think you are the stupid one and off your nut. You are like an empty vessel making a big noise without even knowing the reason why. People can travel to any part of the country as long as they are not going to violate the peace and the people's right to vote. This moron Herath was going with a group of army deserters to assault SF supporters & put the blame on the government.

What on earth?, this maybe Stage acted, After all, what else can you expect?,Politicians need to do something rather Intriguing, 98% of the population are extremely, Gullible ,foolish and absolutely Idiotic, Sri Lankan Politicians are experts at bringing in confusion for their advantage and the people fall for it, 60+ years of suffering yet the Population never learns.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:56 AM

Modaya, as a party leader and authorised polling agent, he has all the rights to watch how election is going on. this indicates how this corrupted government rigging the polls

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:55 AM

Some people are Stupid Morons,Why can't we travel anywhere in our own country as long as they are not restricted areas for security reasons. Come on scum bags get a life.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 10:56 AM

we have less than 20 hours to release the result.ppl will decide MR or SF. for god sake , we need a new era. I really hope that SF will make a good change to the country in a good way as he did the same to the army.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 07:02 AM

8 years? if SF elects he will get only 6 years but sure he will rule forever. remember, a power hungry person will never give up his/her powers. and of cos'.. PLS VOTE WISELY

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 06:56 AM

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 06:52 AM

of course he can go anywhere he wants. but anyone with some sense can realize that he was not going on a picnic! why was he taking so many people with him? oh! maybe they were going on a pilgrimage to nagadeepa :P

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 06:46 AM

At least be questioned as his electorate is way back in Gampaha. He has not even used his vote to be there in Vavunia in the morning

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 06:44 AM

Wijitha Herath is not a party Leader. His electorate is in Gampaha. Not Vauniya. First talk sense without talking crap!

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 06:42 AM

Wijitha Herath would have done better had he stayed in his electorate in Gampaha. He is in Vavuniya early in the morning means that he has not even cast his vote in Gampaha. So what's the big hurry in him not even using his voting rights? something very fishy

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:54 AM

Why Duminda, does he need Visa or clearence from the Govt to visit Vavuniya? There is nothing wrong in going to any where in Sri Lanka.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:46 AM

This is the master plan of SF and his goons, his private army of deserters and the JVPers.... what was the reason to be in Vavuniya so early in the morning? To give leadership for anarchy? time to take a stand against

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:45 AM

The infamous 'iReport' fake sms( now coming from 9411 2811777) says armed desrters caught) what level of distortion people will go to?

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:43 AM

The Tamils have been subject to this "visa rquirement" at every turn. to leave Jaffa, to stay in colombo or any other town for 3 decades!!! No one said anything, not even sympathised with them.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:42 AM

Fool SF only lead Army there is three more forces

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:36 AM

i seriously don't get it... why are people trying so hard to get their hinds kicked?? those supporting the current govt. are either...

a.) Have ulterior motives, some form of gain at the expense of the majority of this country
    b.) Are short sighted.
    c.) Plain dumb.
    d.) All of the above

We KNOW the amount of corruption in the present government, we KNOW how much of thuggery is going on and how no one.. NO ONE who dares speak against it don't live too long... We don't really have a clear idea as to what will happen if Sarath Fonseka comes into power..but those who haven't cast their vote.. think again... we really could do with a change... NO ONE should remain too powerful THIS long... wanna be broiler chicken ?

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:34 AM

Its right to see the real situation in north.protest against violence to tamil people!

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:32 AM

Before you vote think twice, this decision only bring peace & harmony in the country......Do we need any more corruption and violence as being happening now?...If you make your decision wrong today, for another 6-8 yrs??? the right decision is in your hand......

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:21 AM

Why do you now need to apply for a visa to travel in ones country???????

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:34 AM

ask your self what hes doing in vavuniya on the day of the election. please think wisely with out blaming the government for every little damn thing.. all of them are not babies...they are all the same.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:33 AM

Why cannot he go to kilinochchi,?????? isnt a part of Sri Lanka ?????And can’t he be as an election observer and work for his party????? What a sense you all have.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:25 AM

Do you think only Basil can go there? Basil has gone to Vavuniya STF camp to get their support there.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:23 AM

    People comments with emotion...
Why cannot he goes anywhere. If he is detained because of reason, that also should be publish.

as some comments if he cannot go there, most of the government people and ministers should be under custody now

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:23 AM

Duminda & Sanjaya off their nuts. Why cannt any one travel to any part of the country. Now we have freedom so JVP or TNA or SLFP or UNP or any person can travel.

This shows people like this nuture (Duminda & Sanjaya) does not live in this country and supid.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:22 AM

those of you who yell about the lack of democracy think twice! you can even raise a voice today. there was time when the people you hail to today did not allow any criticism to come up. People like Vijitha who take part in ruining our country should not be detained; they should be banished!

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:22 AM

first ask what is he doing in Vavniya?

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:22 AM

News reports confirm that he was travelling with a group of army deserters. Why? He should give some explanation of his conduct NOW. Why blame the Govy when the opposition is causing roblems in the country.

Is this not what LTTE did? Rhey caused terrorism and blamed the Govt.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:35 AM

You are just stupid as the Govt of Sri Lanka. How come you justify going to Vavuniya is taking the law into the hands. Get your upstair checked before commenting.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:20 AM

Vijitha Herath gets caught red handed. Point to ponder is, is Vijitha Herath's polling station in Vavuniya ? Why was he heading towards this area ? If this is how they behave, can you imagine the behaviour if they come to power ?

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:20 AM

And what, may we ask, is the official version of the reason for the detention ?

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:19 AM

    Dear MR Phd. Phd. (Democracy) Harvard;
Democracy first. Arrest SF, Ranil, Somawansa also.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:18 AM

    WOW...!!! Democracy at work...!

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:15 AM

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:15 AM

for what reason did he go to Vavuniya ? these people cant take the law into there hands.let the police do the Job.He should be detained.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:12 AM

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:38 AM

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:38 AM

    # jonson, # Arosha
any one can go there but why on the election day and cause trouble?yes sure basil had gone there but that was not today.these people get into trouble and then scolds the Gov.If he needs to monitor the area they should hire people to do it.

He should give some explanation of his conduct NOW. Why blame the Govy when the opposition is causing problems in the country.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:39 AM

Take it easy Mr Herath..You'll be released in a few hours.Until such time be relaxed

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:39 AM

Duminda & Sanjaya please wake up from you'lls fantasy dreams. anybody should be able to travel to any part of Sri Lanka without hinderance.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:44 AM

People can go anywhere. But what the hell Vijitha is doing in Vauniya. If was in Vavuniya by 9:00 am that means he has not cast is vote. He can't vote before 4:00 pm either. Then what he was doing in Vanuniya ???

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:46 AM

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:46 AM

We can raise our voice only in web !!! that too mainly with sites who is not PRO GOV? So thats why journalist are being harassed . Do u agree or not ?

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:48 AM

Oh...really...democracy ha! We saw what happened to people who "raised their voice" many journalists were killed? ... how many were abducted? ... how many were assaulted?... don’t be ridiculous man…

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:50 AM

Some of these comments are ridiculous. If he was arrested for a valid reason, i.e. For breaking the law, all good and well. But why should he have to have a reason for being in Vavunia? To use that reasoning, any MP govt or opposition found outside his polling division must be detained!

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:52 AM

Only a fool expect a coherent explanation from the MR government. His brothers can visit anywhere, but other cant.
People live in fear. Its a shame!!

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:53 AM

I am not knowledgeable of the person in question, but if he is a citizen he should be able to travel anywhere in the country. If he is accused of a crime or suspected of one...fine, detain him; but the media should report a basic reason for his detention.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:53 AM

what the he is doing in Vavuniya...defenitely ellection rigging. He was from Binila and went to school in Bandarawela. Then came to Gampaha for the election. Now in North for rigging.
All of these JVP guys have to be arrested before they make 89-90 era again...

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:54 AM

Dunida, R U mad? Is this Sri Lanka or Zimbabwe? Why does government not allowing oppsition members to watch polls in North? You may fool but don't show that you are utter fool.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:54 AM

He would have gone to see what is happening in the area,,,as govmt is trying to steal the votes..
